The Rangers will be without defenseman Adam Fox for the foreseeable future.

After leaving Saturday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning with what the team is calling an upper-body injury, Fox is being placed on long-term IR due to a left shoulder injury and is expected to miss “multiple weeks,” according to Vince Mercogliano of The Athletic.

By rule, Fox will miss a minimum of 10 games and 24 days, but the Rangers can exceed the salary cap to a certain point as long as Fox remains sidelined.

Fox skated off to the locker room after taking a hard shoulder-to-shoulder check from Tampa Bay forward Brandon Hagel along the boards in the third period and was unable to return to the game.

Fox not only makes up half of their top defensive pairing, but he also drives this team’s offense and is the quarterback of their top power play unit. He leads all defenseman with 23 assists on the season.
