According to a report this week from RG.org, an Original Six team reportedly inquired with the Vancouver Canucks about the availability of forward Conor Garland.
While the club might not be looking to completely tear things down and enter a full-on rebuild anytime soon, but the Vancouver Canucks are beginning to garner interest from teams around the NHL regarding their pending unrestricted free agents and some, not all, of their veteran players.
“If they have a tough stretch in the next 7 games, teams are going to start calling them on Sherwood and Garland.” Dhaliwal said back on November 7th.
Well, a little over three weeks later and it appears that Patrik Allvin is already receiving calls, at least from one Original Six franchise, regarding forward Conor Garland.
Original Six team reportedly called Vancouver Canucks regarding Conor Garland
In an article for RG.org, James Murphy reported that a source informed him that the Boston Bruins have recently called the Vancouver Canucks to talk trade involving Conor Garland and Kiefer Sherwood as the Atlantic Division club looks for scoring help, despite sitting eighth in the league with 83 goals in 27 games.
“They have 100 percent called on both players. They want scoring and believe that with some more, this team can definitely stay in the race and make some noise.” The source told Murphy last week.
Garland, a native of Scituate, Massachusetts, was a member of the Boston Jr. Bruins program growing up and while he probably would like to remain with the Vancouver Canucks, if there’s anywhere he’d be willing to go, it’ll be his home state.
The 29-year-old is in the final year of his current contract that pays him $4.95 million before his six-year, $36 million ($6 million AAV) extension kicks in ahead of the 2025-26 season, so if Boston wants to bring him onboard, they’re going to need to find a way to make the money work, which won’t be an easy task given they have just $275,000 in available cap space at the moment.
In 21 games this season, Garland has 15 points (six goals, nine assists), 13 penalty minutes and is a minus-two.
