The only time this has previously happened was on March 23, 2023, when the Red Wings hosted the Blues and lost, 4-3, after a shootout in St. Louis on March 21.
It also happened in back-to-back games played at LCA against the same team twice during the 2021 season. On April 8, 2021, Detroit dropped a 7-1 decision to Nashville after a shootout loss to the Predators on April 6. Then on May 2 the Wings lost to the Lightning the day after a shootout win over Tampa.
