Alex Ovechkin held a jersey swap with forward Brady Tkachuk on October 25 after a 7-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators. Tkachuk, who did not play due to undergoing thumb surgery on October 17, made the trip to DC for the occasion.

Brady made the revelation on the latest episode of the Wingmen Podcast, which he films with his brother, Matthew.

Their conversation went like this:

Matthew Tkachuk: Little Birdie told me that you did a jersey swap with The Great 8, Ovi. Talk us through that real quick. How sick was that?

Brady Tkachuk: It was a highlight.

Matthew Tkachuk: Is there a picture?

Brady Tkachuk: No. No cameras. No media. It was just us two after the game. That was really cool. That was just really special.

Matthew Tkachuk: Like everybody on here wants to hear about what you guys were talking about. How did that happen?

Brady Tkachuk: It kind of got organized before, and I was hurt. I wasn’t sure if I was coming on the trip. I was like, ‘Nope, I 100 percent will be on this trip because I ain’t missing this moment. I think we won 7-1, and I was like, okay, we might not be doing this because I don’t know how he’s feeling after this. But it was quick. It was more just ask about how I’m feeling and stuff like that. For me, it was just my first opportunity to congratulate him on being the best goal scorer, and just sharing that, and getting his jersey. It was so awesome.

Matthew Tkachuk: This jersey swap with you and him has to be your favorite memory ever with him. It’s got to be.

Brady Tkachuk: Hands down, that was one of the coolest things of my life. In the hockey world, that was that moment. I felt like it was an honor just to talk to him… That was just a cool moment that I was like, all right. Not many people would ever know after the game, shooting it with the greatest goal scorer of all time.

Matthew Tkachuk: What he’s doing is insane. The only thing that makes me sad is you see these jersey swaps. It’s like, man, I hope this isn’t the last year. I don’t know. He’s obviously earned the right to do whatever the hell he wants, but he’s playing so good. Damn, I hope he continues to play in the NHL.

Ovechkin has also done jersey swaps this season with Los Angeles Kings forward Anze Kopitar, Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin, and Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand.

The Capitals captain appears to have potentially done one with Connor McDavid as well after the Capitals’ 7-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers on November 19. Ovechkin scored his 904th career goal in the game.

Ovechkin’s Telegram account posted photos of Ovi’s two young sons, Sergei and Ilya, posing with Oilers’ superstars Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. McDavid held a red Ovechkin jersey in his photo.

When contacted by RMNB, neither the Capitals nor the Oilers would confirm that the exchange happened.

Brady also asked Matthew in the podcast about his most memorable moment against Ovechkin. Matthew revealed that it came during an October 30, 2016, Calgary Flames game against the Washington Capitals. Tkachuk, then a Flames forward, was playing in the eighth game of his NHL career and recorded his fourth NHL point, an assist.

Matthew Tkachuk: I want to say game six or seven (of my career). I’m like, I don’t know if I’m getting sent back to [juniors] or if I’m sticking around. I’m playing kind of just okay, whatever. I’m just lined up against the draw against my line with Backlund and Frolik in Calgary were lined up against maybe him, Oshie and Backstrom. What the f*** am I doing?

Brady Tkachuk:Yeah, I got to say that’s a mismatch.

Matthew Tkachuk: I’m lined up at the draw with him. And I look to my, I’m a left winger. He’s a right winger. So I didn’t say anything and I’m like [nods head]. And he’s just said like something along the lines of, ‘Hey, what’s up, kid? Welcome to the NHL.’

Brady Tkachuk: Oh, that’s unbelievable.

Matthew Tkachuk: It was, it was f***ing cool. People ask me (my) welcome to the NHL moment. That’s right up there. And ever since, ever since that moment, I honestly like had the confidence to take off and be like, he might know who I am right now.

Brady Tkachuk: Like you’re on his radar.

Matthew Tkachuk: Yeah. Like, holy s***. Like, all right, let’s go. Let’s go. I want more of those moments.
