Sean Avery

Former New York Rangers pest Sean Avery will never shy away from the camera. Today, he made it a point to trash Mitch Marner‘s effort after the Maple Leafs lost 6-1 to the Panthers.

By now, you’ve likely heard of the Maple Leafs stinking it up on home ice. The team would be subject to multiple jersey tosses that night, as they lost to the reigning Stanley Cup champions, 6-1.

Cue Sean Avery, a former NHL agitator who didn’t have much of a career but feels good enough to take down someone like Mitch Marner.

Keep in mind, all Avery is good for is muscle on the ice, and given the time period, he was useful.

Back to the game, however, you get an idea of how bad things were below:

Even worse: Brad Marchand, lifelong Leaf killer with a sly grin as he leaves the ice, and needless to say, Maple Leafs fans are ready to attack.

The team has once again found a way to find themselves failing in an important time of the year. A team that had worked so hard to get to the 2nd-round, may not be an early exit this year, but if they continue as they are, the golf course is in their future.

Avery wouldn’t shy away from singling out Marner, who was afraid of getting dirty and resorted to a regular-season style of play, which led to a turnover. He would pay with a goal against instead of maintaining the integrity of the play and taking a hit.

Marner, later asked about Game 6 and how it could be his final game as a Maple Leaf. He’d quip he had no thoughts about it at all. And given how he played in Game 5, we’ll maybe Treliving is sprucing up his contract real nice for the next team that wants him.

Regardless, while Avery hasn’t had a season over 24 points in his entire career, he wasn’t afraid of taking a hit. Marner should consider adding some size, instead of taking heat for being considered a prima donna in the NHL.
