The San Jose Sharks could be without Alexander Wennberg against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.
Wennber, who is the No. 2 center for the Sharks, suffered an apparent upper-body injury against the Utah Mammoth on Monday. Head Coach Ryan Warsofsky says the centerman should be considered a game-time decision.

Ryan Reaves also missed practice on Tuesday, but won’t miss any time as the San Jose Sharks just gave the veteran a maintenance day.
Wennberg has been used in a variety of situations for the Sharks, and losing him from the lineup would be a significant loss against a high-powered Capitals team.

“It’d be difficult,” Warsofsky said about replacing Wennberg in the Sharks’ lineup. “You look around the league, everyone’s got some injuries going around—next man up mentality. Guys have done a good job of doing that. Obviously, [Pavol] Regenda comes in last night, does a really good job. Someone will get an opportunity if Wenny can’t go.”
Wennberg played 21:18 against the Mammoth on Monday, which is just over his average ice time for the season (20:41). It is unclear when or how Wennberg suffered the upper-body injury in the Sharks’ past game.
Through 27 games this season, Wennberg has five goals and eight assists.
“I think he’s really easy to play with and read off of. He’s in the middle of the ice [and has] good structure to his game,” Warsofsky said about Wennberg’s success with any linemate.
“He’s got good pace to his game. I think it’s easy to gain chemistry with him the way he plays.”

Warsofsky also provided an update on Vincent Desharnais after practice. The coach said the Sharks’ d-man will be out week-to-week.
