The Detroit Red Wings looked like a cohesive team for the first time in a while during their home victory over the Boston Bruins, giving them a much-needed win over a division opponent. The team was assisted by a handful of multi-point performances that ultimately led to the end of their four-game losing streak dating back to November 24th.

One of Detroit’s biggest issues throughout the 2025-26 season is consistency. The team can’t seem to get it going long enough to go on a run and grab some valuable points in a tight division. That being said, their victory over the Bruins on Tuesday was needed for more than just playoff positioning.

The Red Wings have looked defeated throughout their losing streak, especially considering the number of close games they just can’t seem to pull off. Tuesday’s victory seemingly gave Detroit the ability to see the light at the end of the tunnel, because they hung on long enough to snuff out a comeback attempt by Boston.

Being able to build a lead and have it result in a win has been a struggle for the Red Wings as of late, so it’s nice to see them turn it around and get back in the win column. They currently sit in third place in the Atlantic Division. They have a chance to get back in the groove with upcoming games against the Columbus Blue Jackets, Seattle Kraken, and Vancouver Canucks.

Moritz Seider has been the most consistent defensive presence for Detroit this season, and he found himself making a big impact against the Bruins. The defenseman got involved in the scoring early, with an assist on the game-opening goal followed by a tally of his own. He tallied his sixth career three-point game during the victory, a performance good enough to be named first star.

Sieder’s ability to produce offensively is a great asset for the Red Wings, as they rely on a team effort to score goals, especially against high-scoring opponents. Seider has a lot of room to grow, which is good news for Detroit and bad news for everyone else. I’m looking forward to watching his progression and wouldn’t doubt that he turns into a premier defenseman.

Dylan Larkin And Patrick Kane Continue To Build Olympic Cases

Dylan Larkin and Patrick Kane are no strangers to representing the United States in big games, and each of them is looking to do so again in 2026. Both of them bring such different skill sets to the table, and their abilities were on full display against Boston Tuesday night.

Larkin, who played in the 4 Nations Face-Off, has been one of the best American players so far throughout 2025-26 and is only getting better. The center tallied an apple to extend his point streak to five games and moved up the Red Wings’ all-time assists list in the process. He will most likely be named to Team USA given his dynamic play style, and the points he’s putting on the board are only helping his case.

Kane is a bit of a different story, because his presence on the USA team will mostly be due to experience in high pressure situations. The 19-year veteran put that on display against Boston with his 358th career multi-point game, which included two assists. The Buffalo, NY native could very well be left off the roster, especially considering the talent the Americans have, but it could happen.

End Of My Detroit Red Wings Rant

Detroit has the tools to be a contender in 2025-26, but they have to start winning games at a consistent rate if they want to stay in the playoff hunt. Their most recent losing streak exposed their inability to win close games, especially in overtime. That could come back to haunt them at the end of the season. The OT structure in the playoffs doesn’t necessarily bode well for teams that struggle in the regular season, so watching that play out will make for some interesting games.

With that being said, the Red Wings are a good team. They have done a great job of developing talents and getting the right veterans to lead the charge, which makes them dangerous. I expect them to be in the Atlantic Division conversation all season long, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they end up having a pretty good run down the stretch.

It’s been a while since Detroit hoisted the Cup, and with many typical contenders not having their best seasons, this might be the year a long shot has a chance. Their biggest struggles will be put on blast if they make it that far, but if they can piece together some good runs, I have faith in them.Â
