Scotia Place is beginning to rise above ground, as rapid progress continues on the new home of the Calgary Flames.

CANA construction crews tasked with building Scotia Place have come a long way since first digging a hole in the ground during the summer of 2024.

After hitting several milestones in late October, CANA has continued to check off more boxes as the new year approaches.

There are roughly 420 crew members on site, and that number is expected to keep growing.

“We have, over the last week, started to install the rail loading docks,” construction manager Pierre Champness said recently in a video posted by Scotia Place. “There’s some pretty heavy steel in here, big long spans to allow the trucks to come down underground and start loading into the building. We’ve got two stories of steel in this location to install over the next month and a half.”

“We’re in a real position of transition, I would say, on this job right now… We’ve had a good fall season and really made good use of the warm weather. Steel-wise, we’ve started our first two levels of steel in the bowl, and in the next couple of weeks, we’re going to start the upper two tiers and get to the high point of the roof.”

While there is still plenty of work to be done, the hope is that Scotia Place will be able to serve as the new home of the Flames for the 2027-28 season.
