The Boston Bruins split their mini two-game series with the Detroit Red Wings, as they suffered a 5-4 loss on Tuesday night after previously picking up a 3-2 overtime win over them on Saturday. After this defeat, the front office opted to tinker with the roster ahead of the team’s upcoming game.
Boston has had a rotating cast of characters taking the ice for them lately, thanks to a slew of injuries that have plagued the team. One of the guys who recently got called up to the pros was Riley Tufte, who previously suited up for the B’s six times last season.
A former first-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, Tufte got called up midway through November and took the ice four times for the Bruins. On Wednesday, though, he got assigned to Providence, as Boston’s front office has decided to take a longer look at some other guys on their roster.
Tufte filled in as a bottom-six forward for the B’s, scoring one goal during his limited time with the team. He’s a solid depth option to have stashed at Providence, but for the time being, his services aren’t needed at the NHL level.

This is likely due to the fact that Boston is beginning to get several key players back on the ice. Elias Lindholm recently returned for the Bruins, and Viktor Arvidsson made his return in the team’s loss to the Red Wings.
Tufte could get called back up in a pinch if injuries continue to be an issue, but for now, he’ll get some extra run with Providence. As for Boston, it will be back in action on Thursday night when it takes on the St. Louis Blues.
