The Edmonton Oilers are changing up the forward lines in search of more scoring.
It appeared the team was close to a breakthrough on Tuesday night against the Minnesota Wild. They controlled the play for the majority of the game, defended well, and looked much more involved than they had for most of the season up to that point.
With all that in mind, you would have thought that Edmonton came up with the victory, but they didn’t. Instead, they struggled to score, getting shut out by rookie goaltender Jesper Wallstedt in a 1-0 loss on home ice.
This team feels close to getting over the hump, and head coach Kris Knoblauch was hard at work at Wednesday’s practice trying to find the right combination of lines. They will have to do so without Jack Roslovic, who is expected to be out until after Christmas.
Oilers TV’s Tony Brar shared the new-look lineup.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is back on the top line after playing as the Oilers’ third-line centre in each of the last two lines. He is reunited with Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman in a familiar trio that has spent lots of time together over recent years.
On the second line, Leon Drasaitl will remain with Vasily Podkolzin. It will be Matt Savoie sliding down on the right wing. The 21-year-old has looked good in his first full NHL season so far, but has struggled to put up points. He did seem to have a little bit of chemistry with Draisaitl last season.
Adam Henrique will take over Nuge’s spot at third-line centre after playing on the left wing for a couple of games. Mattias Janmark will move into that LW spot, while Andrew Mangiapane comes down from the second line to flank Henrique to the right. Mangiapane has not scored a goal in 13 games and is desperately trying to get back on the scoresheet.
Rounding out the group, Connor Clattenburg appears to be remaining in the lineup despite playing just 4:41 on Tuesday. Curtis Lazar will centre that line, with a struggling Trent Frederic completing the trio.
No new changes on the blueline, as the team is awaiting the return of Jake Walman from injury. Stuart Skinner remained in the Oilers’ starter’s net but has not been confirmed as tomorrow’s starting goaltender against the Philadelphia Flyers.
