The Pittsburgh Penguins were left for dead Saturday. After a lackluster November in which they finished below .500 and ended with an echoing thud on the wrong end of a 7-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs at PPG Paints Arena.
At that point, the Penguins had slipped into the middle of the very tightly bunched Eastern Conference, but the wins were difficult to find.
Then, the Penguins roundly stomped the Philadelphia Flyers Monday, and December began with a bang in a 5-1 win.
