The Detroit Red Wings captain, Dylan Larkin, surpassed a franchise legend in Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins.
With the finality of Tuesday’s game against the Boston Bruins in the record books, Captain Dylan Larkin made history.
He surpassed a franchise legend, Niklas Kronwall, in career assists for the Red Wings with a total of 350. Larkin is now in 11th place on Detroit’s all-time career assists, above one of the best players in recent history to lace up the skates for the original six team.

Niklas Kronwall, unlike Larkin, has won one Stanley Cup, but as a defenseman, he hasn’t been able to provide the kind of offense that Larkin has. In 953 games played with the Original Six team, he’s scored 432 (89-349).
Dylan Larkin has been playing as a Red Wing his entire NHL career and has seen the playoffs once. Since then, he’s been the de facto leader on the team after taking over for Henrik Zetterberg, who last wore the “C” during the 2017-18 season.
Since the 2020-21 season, Larkin has had the captain’s patch on his jersey.
He’s yet to fulfill his ultimate goal of winning a Stanley Cup but has had no issues putting himself in the record books.
Maybe under head coach Todd McLellan’s competitive nature and his desire to hold players accountable, he can realize that dream one day.
Larkin isn’t finished yet; he’s played 760 games for the Red Wings and will lead the team into the new horizon.
After their 5-4 win against the Boston Bruins, the Red Wings and Larkin can feel at ease after feeling so fragile in their last game.
