The Detroit Red Wings aren’t the only suitors lining up for the services of Quinn Hughes in the latest trade speculation.

In what was viewed as an unsuccessful draft in 2018, the Red Wings selected Filip Zadina 6th overall.

Zadina is now playing hockey in Switzerland, while Quinn Hughes is a leader in Vancouver.

Drafted 7th overall in 2018 by the Vancouver Canucks, the team views him as one of the core players in the lineup. The team issued a recent memo where they said they would be listening in on veterans for trades.

As a result, the Red Wings will have to get in line to make a deal for him.

The news has really drawn out teams who are desperate to upgrade their blue line and other teams who could afford him.

This could be vital for the Red Wings, who could right Ken Holland’s wrongs in 2018 and add a top defenseman next to Moritz Seider.

Who are the Red Wings going to have to compete with?

The Detroit Red Wings will have to compete with the New Jersey Devils for his services

The Red Wings certainly have the salary cap space and the assets to acquire Quinn Hughes, but they will have to compete with the New Jersey Devils for his services.

The draw for Hughes is that he could join his brothers Luke and Jack in New Jersey. GM Tom Fitzgerald has the assets they could move, including defenseman Simon Nemec and forward Jesper Bratt (a former 32-goal scorer).

But in order to keep him sold on Hockeytown, general manager Steve Yzerman could utilize his Michigan connection through the Wolverines and his family.

Hughes’ parents live in Michigan, and it could be a swaying factor for him
