The Edmonton Oilers have been connected to trading for Jordan Binnington this season, but Edmonton is reportedly one of 18 teams on his no-trade list.
NHL insider reveals Oilers are on Jordan Binnington’s no-trade list
According to new reports from NHL insider Andy Strickland, the Oilers are one of the 18 teams that Binnington has already denied a trade to.
At the same time, the Blues have found themselves near the bottom of the western conference this season, and Binnington may be open to a change of scenery.
There’s a fair bit of risk attached to Binnington, as he’s been statistically one of the worst goalies in the NHL this season with an .878 save percentage. He’s 32 years old, and owed $6M per season until the end of the 2026-27 year.
Jordan Binnington would be a perfect fit for Edmonton Oilers systems
However, NHL goalie analyst Steve Valiquette revealed Binnington’s strengths would perfectly suit Edmonton’s defensive weaknesses. In the Oilers defensive system, he actually may have saved 16 more goals than Skinner – which would have the Oilers in a different place in the standings.
He also thinks that Binnington would waive his trade protection for Edmonton if asked.
A change of scenery for Binnington – that would be something I think he would be I get the sense he would probably welcome it especially if it was going to go to Edmonton.
– Steve Valiquette
We’ll have to see how the Oilers move forward, but if the goaltending continues how it’s performed so far this season; they’ll need to make a move before entering another playoff run.,
