The Vancouver Canucks can’t seem to catch a break.

There are the injuries, plus the fact that they’re one of the worst teams in the NHL. And, earlier this week, Vancouver’s only Stanley Cup-winning team, which obviously isn’t the Canucks, got a shoutout on Jeopardy!.

Contestants on an episode that aired on Tuesday were given an “All Sports” category. After contestant Anne Martyn correctly answered a question about the Ice Bucket Challenge, she took her shot at answering some sports trivia.

Ironically, it was another ice-related inquiry.

“It’s the oldest trophy awarded in North American pro sports; one early winning team was the Vancouver Millionaires,” the clue read.

Although Anne selected the question, it was another contestant, Eli Selzer, who stepped up and answered correctly: “What’s the Stanley Cup?”

While Selzer got off to a hot start, both he and Martyn were beaten out by Florida native Libby Jones, who won without having to answer any ice hockey questions.

The Jeopardy! question was a subtle reminder to Canucks fans that there’s only been one team in this city to bring home the Stanley Cup, and that was way back in 1915.

There’s some weird number symmetry now between the Canucks and the Vancouver Millionaires team that brought home the Stanley Cup.

It’s been 110 years since the Millionaires won the Cup. Then, it was 55 years until the Canucks became an NHL team in 1970.

Now? It’s been 55 years without a Cup celebration for Canucks fans.

Based on the way the team is playing right now, it feels like it could be another 55 years until they finally bring home that elusive Stanley Cup.
