San Jose Sharks forward Jeff Skinner will return to the lineup on Friday against the Dallas Stars for the first time since suffering a lower-body injury.

Skinner’s injury didn’t look pretty, and the initial fear was that it could be severe. Luckily for the Sharks and Skinner, he avoided the worst and missed only 10 games.
Skinner and top San Jose Sharks prospect Michael Misa joined the team on the ice for the first time this past Monday. The Sharks have since sent Misa to the AHL on a conditioning loan. Skinner, who has been out for a shorter time than Misa, won’t need a conditioning stint.
The San Jose Sharks were scheduled to have a day off from practice, but the team played poorly against the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, losing 7-1. Tyler Toffoli confirmed to reporters that today was supposed to be a scheduled off day and admitted that, after the performance, a day off wasn’t deserved.
Toffoli confirms this was an unscheduled practice: “We didn’t deserve the day off.”

The San Jose Sharks needed to open up a roster spot for Skinner’s return and sent down Pavol Regenda to the AHL. Regenda played his first two games as a member of the Sharks and scored a power play goal in both games.
Sharks coach Ryan Warsofsky has been looking forward to Skinner’s return. The power play has been struggling for some time, and adding Skinner back provides depth. This also allows the Sharks to have more than 12 forwards available in any potential lineup.
Despite doing line rushes during today’s unscheduled practice, Warsofsky says not to read too much into the combinations.
