Rumors of the demise of the Pittsburgh Penguins’ sale have been greatly exaggerated.
A source with direct knowledge of the sale process told Pittsburgh Hockey Now Thursday that the transaction remains in process. However, it will probably not move quickly, as the source termed “complications” on external details are holding up the process.
According to a source, the Fenway Sports Group and the Hoffman Family of Companies have indeed agreed on a price, and many around the sale have come to accept FSG’s waning interest in owning the team.
Those complicating details appear to be on the Fenway side and have slowed the process to a crawl. The Penguins’ decision to cede exclusive development rights to the undeveloped land around the arena is not the significant issue in question.
Further, it seems the league, including commissioner Gary Bettman, has advised all parties to maintain silence on the matters until the deal is complete.
