A major rumor is beginning to pick up speed: Zachary Bolduc may be involved in a trade with the Canucks.
Sherwood is currently having an impressive season in Vancouver with 12 goals and 16 points in 27 games. He even leads the NHL in hits with 93 delivered, which speaks volumes.
It’s easy to understand why Kent Hughes is inquiring: the Canadiens have long been looking to add a physical forward to their group. A player capable of hitting hard, wearing down opposing defenses, and protecting the young stars would naturally appeal to the Canadiens.
Zachary Bolduc at the center of discussions
Where the rumor becomes more intriguing is when Zachary Bolduc’s name comes up in conversations between the two clubs. Canucks scouts are said to have attended Tuesday’s game at the Bell Centre, possibly to observe him closely.
“The Canucks scouted the Montreal/Ottawa game, could they be trying to get a young player like Zach Bolduc?”
– Donnie and Dhali on the continued trade interest in Canucks Forward Kiefer Sherwood.
Bolduc, 22, was acquired on July 1 in return for Logan Mailloux after a 36-point season in St. Louis. Since the start of the schedule, he has 6 goals and 6 assists for 12 points in 25 games with the Canadiens. His plus-minus sits at -4, and he has picked up 10 penalty minutes, all while averaging about 14 minutes of ice time. On top of that, he’s from Trois-Rivières and represents exactly the kind of local player the fans were asking for.
This is where Vancouver’s asking price becomes tricky: trading a young, established, affordable forward for a 30-year-old energy player. Sherwood would help immediately, but Bolduc represents an important piece of the organization’s medium-term plan.
“Dhali mentions Minnesota and Montreal as the 2 teams showing the most interest in Sherwood.”
Mentions Zach Bolduc as someone the Canucks could be looking at”
For now, this remains in the realm of rumors, and nothing indicates that Kent Hughes is ready to sacrifice Bolduc.
One thing is certain, however: if a trade involving Zachary Bolduc and Kiefer Sherwood materializes, we will be talking about a true earthquake in Montreal.
