Bobby McMann's goal vs. Carolina

Thanks to their fast start against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Toronto Maple Leafs tied a record that was set by the divisional foe Tampa Bay Lightning in 2021-22.

The Toronto Maple Leafs took a 1-0 lead over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night at Lenovo Center, and they tied a record that was last set by the divisional foe Tampa Bay Lightning.

Bobby McMann’s goal was the fourth straight game the Maple Leafs scored on their very first shot on goal. The last team to do that was the Lightning in 2021-22; the Lightning were the defending Stanley Cup champions that year.

He also scored just 53 seconds into the game, the kind of quick strikes that the Maple Leafs need to break out of their funk.

With Bobby McMann’s goal at 0:53 of the first period, the Maple Leafs become the second team since 2009-10 to score on their first shot on goal in four consecutive games, joining the Tampa Bay Lightning (Nov. 20-26, 2021).

The Maple Leafs then quickly added another goal to increase their lead to 2-0 against ex-teammate Frederik Andersen, who has played the last handful of years in a Hurricanes sweater. He previously played for Toronto from 2016 to 2021.

The Maple Leafs Re-Signed Bobby McMann In March To A Two-Year Contract

McMann was never drafted into the NHL and instead signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Toronto Marlies, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Maple Leafs.

He’s played his entire NHL career in a Maple Leafs sweater, and was rewarded with a two-year contract extension from general manager Brad Treliving that was signed in March.

Last season in 74 games played, McMann reached a career-best 34 points (20G, 14A).

So far this year, McMann has 12 points (6G, 6A) and is on pace to reach a new career-best in points with 38 if he keeps this current pace.
