The game against the Devils marks the longest road trip of the season for the Golden Knights, spanning five games. Over the course of the next week and a half, the Golden Knights will face the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets. The East Coast trip is always physically and mentally exhausting, so the Golden Knights will need to ensure that they are on fresh legs and remain crisp in their execution.
Here is how the Golden Knights can get things going in the right direction to start their stay on the Eastern Seaboard.
The last extended trip the Golden Knights took to the East Coast was a mixed bag of tricks, with the team going 1-1-1 across three games played.
The first game was arguably the worst the Golden Knights looked all season, suffering their only shutout of the year so far in a 3-0 loss to the Florida Panthers on Oct. 25. It is easy for fatigue to set in, especially with the time differences the Golden Knights are forced to deal with during the East Coast swing. Getting out to a fast start will be essential for the Golden Knights, as it will be much easier for them to remain fresh holding a lead than chasing the entire game.
The Devils come into their match with the Golden Knights reeling.
Despite being on a four-game homestand, the Devils so far have nothing to show for it. They have lost all three of their current matchups, including being shut out 3-0 to the Dallas Stars in their previous matchups. The Devils will be doing everything in their power to bring their fans home happy, so the Golden Knights putting on the pressure would cool the crowd and mitigate the home-ice advantage.
With how the last games went, it is fair to understand why both teams feel the need to make moves.
The Devils will be shuffling their lineup around, with players swapping in and forward lines being put in a blender. Meanwhile, the Golden Knights remain largely the same, with the likes of Jack Eichel, Mark Stone and Braeden Bowman all remaining in the roles that have allowed them to thrive in recent games. That chemistry could play a critical difference between both sides, and the Golden Knights must take advantage as plays come up.
Another point of intrigue throughout the road trip cropped up for the Golden Knights this morning.
The team has called up goaltender Jesper Vikman from the Henderson Silver Knights, thus making him the third goaltender they are carrying on the trip. It is unclear as to why this is the case, with the possibility that either Akira Schmid or Carter Hart is dealing with an injury or illness. It is a storyline to keep track of not only in this game, but throughout the trip.
