Among the action on the NHL waiver wire today included the defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers putting forward Anton Lundmark on undconditional waivers for the purposes of a contract termination.

There wasn’t very much action on the NHL waiver wire today, as only two names are now up for grabs by the rest of the League.

Per NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the Florida Panthers have put forward Anton Lundmark on unconditional waivers for the purposes of a contract termination, after which he will become an unrestricted free agent.

Additionally, the Pittsburgh Penguins waived forward Joona Koppanen.

Koppanen (PIT) on waivers

Lundmark (FLA) on waivers for purposes of contract termination.

Lundmark has yet to appear in a single game this year in a Panthers sweater in regular season play and has instead played nine games with the AHL affiliate Charlotte Checkers. He has no points during that time and had four penalty minutes.

The Panthers Signed Anton Lundmark To A Contract Before This Season

Lundmark, who played last year with Timra IK of the SHL, was offered a contract by the Panthers, which he signed.

He admitted that he was “on top of the moon” after signing the contract with the Panthers, who said they were anticipating the further development of his game with their organization.

Anton is a robust forward who has elevated his game rising through the professional hockey ranks in Sweden. We look forward to his continued development in our organization. – Panthers President of Hockey Operations & General Manager Bill Zito

But it’s clear that the Panthers weren’t impressed by Lundmark during his time in the AHL, and he will soon be free to seek other opportunities in the NHL.
