Speculation is running wild that Calvin Pickard may have played his last game with the Edmonton Oilers against Seattle last night.
Pickard did backstop the Oilers to a win last night, but posted a save percentage of .875 which shouldn’t inspire confidence from management. Top Oilers insider Bob Stauffer felt the decision to start Pickard at all was «interesting», but it may have been his last game in Edmonton.
Oilers analysts speculation Pickard has played his last game with Edmonton
Now 10 games into the season, Pickard has a lowly .851 save percentage and ranks as one of the worst goalies in the NHL. Analysts at OilersNation believe every game he plays, there’s a feeling it could be his last in the NHL.
There’s a little bit of a vibe like, is every time Calvin Pickard’s out there, is every time potentially his last start? Is he one bad game away from going down to Bakersfield, not being an NHL goalie anymore? We also saw a big embrace between him and Stuart Skinner after the win.
That embrace between Skinner and Pickard is certainly raising questions from all Oilers fans today.
Pickard was in need of a win desperately, but there seemed to be some lingering and emotion during the fist bump line – especially from Skinner. It may have been the send off for Pickard.
As of right now too, the Oilers don’t even necessarily have to make a goalie trade. They have Connor Ingram waiting for his trial in the NHL, and he’s now got 9 AHL starts under his belt this year. In tonight’s game, Ingram looked ready for the call up.
If this is it for Calvin Pickard, it will have been a phenomenal and memorable run for him in Edmonton. Whenever called upon in the last two season, he over performed expectations – especially in the playoffs. He’s be remembered fondly by Oil country.
