It looked like a long shot to happen in the first place, but Stuart Skinner’s wish of getting the call from Team Canada seems to be over.
Goalies selected for Team Canada drug testing suggest Skinner didn’t make the cut
Each team recently had to submit an expanded list of players, some of whom won’t make the team, for pre-tournament drug testing by the IOC’s standards.
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Skinner was not one of the goalies selected for testing.
Team Canada may even see a major shakeup from their trio selected to play for the 4 Nations Faceoff. Jordan Binnington and Darcy Kuemper will likely return, but Logan Thompson and Scott Wedgewood are making a push.
Although Skinner obviously wanted to make Team Canada, and his playoff experience would give management something to consider – his performance just hasn’t been good enough this season or in last year’s postseason.
On the other hand, Oilers forward Zach Hyman did reveal he was pulled for tests – indicating he has a real shot to make Team Canada.
Evan Bouchard is the other prime candidate to be selected from the Oilers, and should make the team based off his great play this year. However, there’s been no confirmation of him being tested.
It’d be nice for more than just McDavid to represent Canada and the Oilers at the Olympics this year. Hopefully, some of them do get selected.
