In an unfortunate collision that was reminiscent of another such incident when he was an Oiler, Evander Kane was injured by a referee’s skate on Tuesday.
It’s a rare enough thing when a skate blade cuts a players skin during a game; but when it happens twice in a player’s career, you have to be grateful the injury wasn’t worse.
Avs head coach provides Kane’s injury status
Following Vancouver’s game against the Avalanche on Tuesday, this was posted about the injury:
“Adam Foote said Evander Kane got a scare late in game with skate to his forearm. Said the skin was lacerated, but Foote thinks Kane will be OK. Avoided serious injury”. Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre on X. Dec 3.
The former-Oiler was involved in a tangle of players in front of the Avalanche bench when he collided with the linesman’s skate.
Kane fell to the ice clutching his arm before leaving the ice. Fortunately, the injury was only a surface one and did not cause severe damage to his arm.
Of course, Oilers’ fans might recall another time when Evander was cut by a player’s skate, only this time the injury was serious.
In November of 2022, when he was still an Edmonton Oiler, Kane suffered a gruesome cut on his left wrist by the skate blade of Tampa Bay Lightning forward Pat Maroon.
Kane was transported to a hospital and underwent a procedure, requiring emergency surgery to reattach an artery and other damage caused by the sharpness of the skate-blade.
Kane would go on to miss more than two months of play.
The Vancouver Canucks return home to play the Utah Mammoth on Friday. Kane’s status is uncertain for that game.
We wish Evander a quick return to the ice.
