The Ottawa Senators and the St. Louis Blues are set for a Saturday night showdown from the Canadian capital city. Welcome back to NHL Predictions, with us here at Last Word On Hockey. Check out our statistical breakdown, analysis, storylines, and predictions for not just this one, but games all season long. Ottawa will look for revenge as the Blues spoiled the Sens Tkachuk family supper last time around. But just how will they get it done?

NHL Predictions St. Louis Blues at Ottawa Senators

2025-26 Season Series –  Blues won on November 28th, by a score of 4-3.

Start Time: 7:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)

How to Watch: SN1, FDSNMW

Location: Canadian Tire Centre in Kanata, Ontario

These two teams met just over a week ago, in St. Louis, Missouri. Now, they switch venues to return to the home of the Ottawa Senators.

We will say the star of this show is David Perron, and why not? Perron just hit 1200 career regular season games, when the Sens took on the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night. He has played remarkably in 19 NHL seasons. Of those, 11 of them came in a St. Louis Blue uniform. He was even there in the 2019 Stanley Cup win, in what was, interestingly enough, his third, different tour of duty with St. Louis. He would love to help Ottawa exact revenge on his former team.

How Can Ottawa Get Back to their Winning Ways

For Ottawa, they are beginning to feel the effects of the shortened NHL schedule. Just when it seems they are getting over the injury bug, it sneaks up and sinks its teeth into you, like a pesky mosquito on the Muskoka in May. Missing for tonight’s game includes Shane Pinto, Thomas Chabot, and likely Lars Eller, too. Furthermore, their captain Brady Tkachuk has only suited up for seven games to this point. So, even if the quantity of injuries hasn’t been a lot, the quality of those affected has been great.

One key part of Ottawa’s game amid the bloodsucking injury bug, has been the incredibly high-level, and sustained, play of the leader of the blueline, Jake Sanderson. He has proven why he is seen as one of the best defenceman in the entire NHL. Ottawa will need him at his best in this one.

For the Sens key to victory, the Ranger game, and the previous Blue game hopefully provided the group with some lessons learned. They need to stay responsible on the puck. Teams are very skilled that can take advantage of the smallest opportunity. Moreover, they need to remain disciplined in their structure. They need to be patient offensively, on the cycle. No need to rush things to the net, the opportunities will come. When they do, capitalize on them. Don’t get frustrated and caught out of position.

What About the Goalies

The goaltending matchup would tend to favour Ottawa, but both teams are solid overall. It’s just about that consistency factor, doing it. The expected starters are Linus Ullmark against Jordan Binnington. However, this is a good chance to add our disclaimer. Please check social media for the very latest lineup news before locking in your daily fantasy rosters. Ullmark enters play 10-6-4 with a 3.05 goals-against average and a slowly improving, .876 save percentage.

Meanwhile, St. Louis’ counter in Binner, has had a less than ideal campaign. He’s 6-7-5 with a 3.30 GAA and a similar to Ullmark, .874 SV%. It is interesting that despite the two goalies’ poor 2025-26, that they are both considered front-runners to make the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics for their respective countries. Team Canada loves Binnington‘s big game pedigree. It helps that Canada and St. Louis share a general manager in Doug Armstrong. While for Team Sweden, you can’t leave a recent Vezina Trophy-winning goalie in Ullmark out of the mix.

Some Thoughts on New York’s Situation

For St. Louis, it has been made known that they are willing to listen to trade offers on a good chunk of their roster. Names like Jordan Kyrou, Jordan Binnington, and even Brayden Schenn have been floating around.

Someone like Kyrou would be a nice addition for this current Sens group. At this time, don’t look for Ottawa to give up the assets needed to complete such a deal. Guys like Ridly Greig or Stephen Halliday are the Sens best bargaining chips. However, general manager Steve Staios isn’t ready to pull that trigger yet.

For the Blues key to victory, they need more consistency from their skilled forward group. They have plenty of talent, with players like Pavel Buchnevich and Robert Thomas, and others. It’s just about being able to contribute, and for others to step up, on a nightly basis.

For a recent Blues injury notes, Jimmy Snuggerrud will miss some time. It is unfortunate, as he was putting together a solid NHL rookie campaign. Furthermore, the timing will likely prevent any thoughts he might have had regarding a Calder Trophy. He has 11 points in 26 games, thus far.

NHL Predictions

Ottawa will be motivated playing in front of the home crowd on a Saturday night. Also, they really need to get back to their winning ways.

Prediction: Senators 5 – Blues 2

Prop Bets

To go along with our score prediction, check out a couple anytime scorers. We like Brady Tkachuk to score in this one, against the team he grew up around. For St. Louis, look for Kyrou to find the goal column. He will look to impress in this one, against a team that could be looking to acquire his services.
