Donald Carlson – Inside The Rink
The New York Rangers were dealt a big blow on their blue line. It’s been announced that the team lost defenseman Adam Fox to an upper-body injury and he is week-to-week. Replacing Fox is a tough ask for a team that’s already struggling this season. The Rangers sit at 15-12-2 entering play today with 32 points and in seventh in the Metropolitan Division. They will need to look to replace Fox who was a key part of their power-play.
One name they could target is defenseman Erik Gustafsson, who currently plays for the Grand Rapids Griffins, the Red Wings’ AHL affiliate. In 12 games this season he has nine assists and is a plus-nine. He also played in one game with Detroit this season in which he finished as a minus-one. Gustafsson spent one season with the Rangers before joining the Red Wings. He played in 76 games recording 31 points on six goals and 25 assists. He was a plus-three with nine power-play points.
