The Vancouver Canucks have signed Boston University defenseman Tom Willander to a three-year entry-level deal, it was announced earlier this week.
Willander, a 2023 first round pick of the Canucks, just finished his sophomore season with the Terriers, putting up two goals and 22 assists for 24 points in 39 games. Having joined Boston University in 2023, Willander accumulated six goals and 43 assists for 49 points in 77 games.
Prior to making the move to the NCAA, Willander grew up playing hockey in his home country of Sweden, suiting up in Flemingsbergs IK, AIK and Rogle BK’s junior systems. He also got into a one pro game in the HockeyAllsvenskan (with AIK) and two games in the SHL (with Rogle BK).
With Willander now joining the Canucks’ system, he stands a good chance to make the team out of training camp next year. As someone who makes good decisions with and without the puck, Willander will soon be a regular contributor on Vancouver’s blueline.
