The Washington Capitals saw their six-game winning streak ended by the Anaheim Ducks on Friday night. The Ducks took the Caps down in a shootout, coming away 4-3 victors.
Still a great road trip. Jacob Trouba sucks.
Not a bad game at all from the Capitals at five-on-five. The Ducks are a great team this season, and I thought the officiating was awful the whole night. So, I had no real problems with the performance overall and was really glad to see them take home a much-deserved standings point. The Caps took three separate leads in the game and finished up 14-10 in five-on-five high-danger chances. If Connor McMichael finishes that breakaway in overtime, they go home undefeated.
Another goal from Tom Wilson, who now has 17 markers in 29 games this season. The tally was the 196th of his career, passing Bengt Gustafsson (195) for the seventh-most goals in franchise history.
Logan Thompson was great in regulation, great in overtime, and not so great in the shootout. He made 35 stops on 38 shots faced, and, per MoneyPuck, saved 1.08 more goals than expected, which ranks him first in the league in that category (18.6).

Ryan Leonard’s injury, unfortunately, forced head coach Spencer Carbery to shorten his bench at the end of a long road trip. Leonard played just 4:37 before departing the ice, Brandon Duhaime played just 6:22, and Hendrix Lapierre played just 5:22.
The Anaheim Ducks haven’t made the playoffs since the 2017-18 season.
Jacob Trouba has won nothing in his 853-game NHL career. Another number for you regarding him is: four. That’s how many times I think I saw him turn down a fight with Wilson. The guy never answers for his countless horrible hits, and I hope he’s given no choice in the return fixture on January 5. Paging Dr. Dylan McIlrath.
