Kiefer Sherwood, Vancouver Canucks forward, chases after the puck
The Vancouver Canucks have a sought-after trade candidate in Kiefer Sherwood. Currently, far and away the club leader in goals, teams around the league have pitched them on a deal to secure the hard-hitting forward. The Canucks are naturally trying to maximize their return.

But their ask in response to an enquiry by the Philadelphia Flyers was met with a definitive “No, thanks.”

According to insider Elliotte Friedman on his 32 Thoughts podcast, the Canucks asked the Flyers about three-time 20-goal scorer Owen Tippett in return for Sherwood.

They ask high. The news got out that they asked about Tippett…

I do think the Canucks asked about him, (but) I don’t think that’s going to be happening.

Tippett, 26, is only in Year Two of an eight-year deal with a now-reasonable $6.2 million AAV.

Rumors have been circulating about Tippett, and the Flyers don’t like it, Friedman added.

I think the Flyers are trying to do everything they can to calm the noise around him. I think it’s bothered him a little bit, I think he’s definitely heard it. I think the Flyers are trying to say, ‘Look, this is not our doing’… I’ve heard that they believe there’s another level they can get Tippett to…

Sometimes names are out there because teams are looking to move guys. But this is not the case with Tippett… This is not created by them.

Tippett’s last three seasons have been at or well above the 20-goal mark, with an average of close to 50 points over that span. He’s once again on a similar pace, in line for a 28-goal, 56-point campaign, as he currently sits at nine goals and 18 points through 26 games.

Canucks shooting for the stars in Sherwood trade talks

As for Sherwood, he notched a career-best 19 goals last season, while setting the all-time league record for hits, with a ridiculous 462. The Canucks continue trade talks around Sherwood, but Friedman says they’ve been shooting for the stars. “I don’t think (Tippett is) the only… good young player that they’ve asked for.”

Talks will continue, as Vancouver is expected to be the first seller to pull the trigger on one of their available trade candidates.
