Per the latest reports from head coach Lindy Ruff, the Buffalo Sabres could very well be on the verge of experiencing a ‘big shakeup’ amidst their struggles, which has them in danger of missing the playoffs for a 15th straight year.
The Buffalo Sabres recently beat the contending Winnipeg Jets 5-1, but since they they’ve lost two straight games, including the rematch against the Jets, who turned the tables on them with a 4-1 win.
The Sabres, who continue to be in last place in the Atlantic Division standings, would miss the postseason for an astounding 15th straight year if they began today. They [Buffalo Sabres top guys] do have to produce and it might just be time to shake up, big shake up in the lines and try to get something going.
We’ve got one even strength goal in the last six periods of play. You’re not going to win any road games if you don’t score five on five. – Lindy Ruff
The Sabres will play the struggling Calgary Flames on Monday night for their next game.
Lindy Ruff Has No Contract With The Sabres Beyond This Season
Lindy Ruff, who coached the Sabres to some of their top moments in team history including their strong regular seasons from 2005-06 to 2006-07 and their trip to the 1999 Stanley Cup Final, is coaching for the second time behind their bench.
He agreed to return to the franchise he coached for over a decade in 2024 after stops with the Dallas Stars and New Jersey Devils along as an assistant with the New York Rangers.
But if the Sabres can’t figure things out, Ruff could very well choose not to seek an extension with the team – especially if they miss the playoffs for the 15th straight year.
