A the trade rumours surrounding Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes continue to build, a tense moment between him and teammate Elias Pettersson was caught on camera.
The Vancouver Canucks are now the worst team in the Pacific Division, having recently been overtaken by the Calgary Flames in the standings.
For a team that was the best club in the division in 2023-24, it’s a stunning fall from grace.
Last season, there were multiple changes to the organization, including the blockbuster trade of JT Miller to the New York Rangers after rumours of a feud with Elias Pettersson were confirmed by team president Jim Rutherford.
Now, there are constant trade rumours surrounding captain Quinn Hughes, and during last night’s game against the Utah Mammoth, a tense moment between Hughes and Pettersson was caught on camera.
After Utah’s third goal to go up 3-1, Canucks coach Adam Foote called his 30-second time out. Cameras caught Hughes barking what appeared to be profanities at Pettersson, while Conor Garland appeared to try and calm his captain down.
If things don’t improve in a hurry in Vancouver, there could be additional major changes in story.
Is There Now A Feud Between Quinn Hughes And Elias Pettersson?
The rumours of a feud between Pettersson and Miller were confirmed by team president Jim Rutherford shortly before Miller was traded to the New York Rangers, the team that originally drafted him into the NHL.
Even though last night’s tense moment near the bench could have been the product of frustration boiling over, it’s hard not to think that there are more problems involving Pettersson and a Canucks teammate considering what took place last season.
Hughes could very well soon be on the move from the Canucks despite having another year on his contract.
