Alex Ovechkin has seemingly done it all in the NHL, yet sometimes he still accomplishes new things that seem hard to fathom.

Ovechkin’s latest feat came after he scored twice on the San Jose Sharks during the Washington Capitals’ 7-1 victory on December 3. The Capitals’ captain didn’t just score on just one Sharks goalie, he scored on both of them, beating Yaroslav Askarov 8:25 into the first period and Alex Nedeljkovic 2:41 into the second.

During his 21 seasons in the NHL, Ovechkin has scored on both team’s goalies in the same game 13 different times per NHL Stats. Yes, he helped chase one guy, then made the other guy want to leave too.

These are all the instances. Goals against each goaltender are in parentheses.

* Ovechkin also scored on an empty net

Notably, the Capitals are 13-0-0 in these games.

At age 40, Ovechkin has managed the feat twice in a span of two weeks after not doing so for four years. During his 13 times scoring against both goalies, he’s notched hat tricks 8 different times.

Only against the Canadiens on November 20, 2025, did Ovi manage to score on both goaltenders and an empty net, meaning even the goalie-less twine has not been safe.

Former teammates have also felt Ovi’s goal-scoring wrath during these big games as The Great 8 has scored on former Capitals Craig Anderson and Justin Peters on this list. Montreal and Ottawa made the list twice each.

Only two players in NHL history have scored on both team’s goaltenders in the same game more: Mario Lemieux (21) and Brett Hull (16).
