This could be the moment for the Detroit Red Wings to steal valuable points while riding offense and facing a shaky Seattle Kraken offense.
Detroit enters this game on a three-game point streak, hoping to push that run to four. Meanwhile the Kraken are reeling, having lost five of their last seven games and stumbling on offense.
Detroit’s attack has suddenly clicked – 25 goals over their last seven games, tied among the NHL’s top surges in that window.
That firepower could take advantage of a defence that has surrendered 35 goals across its last eight outings, the worst mark in the league over that span.
The results have looked explosive when everything is clicking, but the defensive holes remain a serious concern.
Seattle Kraken slump gives Detroit Red Wings an edge tonight
Fans have to feel good about this one, given how Detroit’s depth forwards – including Nate Danielson – have stepped up recently. Danielson posted a goal and an assist in a win over Seattle just two weeks ago.
On top line duty, Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat and Andrew Copp should keep driving possession and generating chances as they have all season.
Meanwhile, Seattle’s offence remains cold and their defence has looked leaky lately, making this a perfect storm for Detroit to strike.
Still, Detroit’s own defensive issues could give the Kraken an opening if Detroit relaxes. Goaltender matchups and execution on the back end will matter a lot more than most fans might think. But if Detroit plays with pace and attention all night, they have a clear shot to keep rolling.
I expect Detroit to pressure early, drive offence hard, and aim to build a lead before the third. If they do that while covering their defensive lapses, this game could turn into another confident showing.
