One of the NHL’s peskiest players was at it again on Saturday afternoon.
During the day’s encounter between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Florida Panthers, the veteran winger glanced at the Blue Jackets’ plans being drawn up during a timeout called in overtime. When Columbus players realized what Marchand was doing, a few players tried to push Marchand out of their huddle.

Moments later, it was Marchand who got the last laugh. The winger set up his teammate, Sam Bennett, with a pass that led to the game-winning goal in overtime, scored with four seconds remaining in the period.
The goal capped off a 7-6 goal-scoring affair, won by the Panthers. Bennett and Marchand ended the night with four-point games, each scoring a goal and three assists. Carter Verhaeghe scored twice while Seth Jones, Anton Lundell and Evan Rodrigues also scored for the Panthers. Columbus held 4-1 and 6-4 leads on Florida before the Panthers completed their comeback efforts.

The game also featured two goals that were reviewed. The Blue Jackets had a goal called back for a distinct kicking motion, removing a potential goal for forward Brendan Gaunce. The Panthers, however, had a goal review confirmed after Columbus initially believed that Marchand delivered a hand pass before one of Verhaeghe’s two goals scored in the game.
