The legendary Patrick Kane made NHL history earlier this week and is now closing in on Mike Modano’s record for the most goals by an American-born player.
The Detroit Red Wings’ six-game road trip didn’t start the way the team wanted, as they lost 6-5 to the Columbus Blue Jackets.
It’s unfortunate knowing that the team had a lot of momentum going into the game, as one of the most respected veterans in the locker room and in the whole NHL, Patrick Kane, had the opportunity to break a league record.
Patrick Kane Breaks Mike Modano’s Record And Is Now Eyeing A Bigger One
Kane scored two assists against the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, marking the 358th multi-point game of his career, which tied Modano’s mark:
Then, Thursday, against the Blue Jackets, he scored two more points: a goal and an assist, to register his 359th multi-point game, officially becoming the player born in the United States with the most games of two points or more.
The Detroit Red Wings acknowledged that achievement in a post on X:
As for Kane, he now looks to beat Modano’s point record of 1,374, which could happen soon enough, as the veteran currently stands at 1,361 points, 13 points shy of the mark.
“It would be really cool. I’ve been a big fan of Mike since his playing days. When I met him when I came into the League, it was really a surreal moment for me. Loved the way he played, his flair and style, his jersey flapping when he was skating, and just how effortless he played. His highlights were something I watched growing up, so it would be cool to have him in attendance.”
