The wolf head changed hands in the Canadiens’ locker room on Saturday night.
After the 2-1 shootout victory against the Maple Leafs in Toronto, Oliver Kapanen handed the “wolf head of the game” to Alexandre Texier following the matchup.
In regulation time, Cole Caufield had opened the scoring on the power play, with assists from Juraj Slafkovsky and Ivan Demidov, before Toronto tied the game in the third period.

Back in the locker room, the wolf head sequence summed up the mood. This reward replaced the old “glasses of the game” and has become a true internal symbol. Seeing a prospect like Kapanen choose Texier, who has only just arrived in Montreal, says a lot about the place he is already taking within this group.
Caufield, for his part, continues his offensive momentum with this power-play goal, extending his point streak.
The Canadiens now have two consecutive wins and five victories in their last seven outings, giving them a bit of wind in their sails before facing the St. Louis Blues on Sunday.
Now remains the big question for Martin St-Louis: after such a strong night in Toronto, will he send Jakub Dobes back in net, or will he return to Samuel Montembeault against the Blues?
Regardless of the decision, the wolf head has clearly already found a new specialist for showtime nights.
