Macklin Celebrini scored a goal and added two assists in his 100th career game, propelling the San Jose Sharks past the Carolina Hurricanes 4-1 on Sunday.
William Eklund also played in his 200th career NHL game. Alexander Wennberg and John Klingberg had a goal and an assist for the Sharks, who get back over .500 with a 14-13-3 record. Collin Graf also scored, and Alex Nedeljkovic got his revenge, beating the team that drafted him by making 29 saves.
Jordan Staal scored the only goal for the Hurricanes, who had won eight straight games against the Sharks dating back to the 2021-22 season. Pyotr Kochetkov made a surprising start as he returned from an eight-game injury absence, making 18 saves. Tonight marked Kochetkov’s fifth start of the season, but his first loss.
The Sharks’ new look lines looked balanced, dangerous, and responsible against a top-tier opponent. Ryan Warsofsky, giving Graf a bump in the lineup, was rewarded immediately.
The power play was also better, as the San Jose Sharks went one for two on the man advantage.
Graf taps in the opening goal 33 seconds into the first period. After Will Smith kept the puck in at the blue line, Celebrini made a spectacular pass for Graf to tap in by the left pad of Kochetkov.
Staal tied the game 1-1 with a power play goal at 13:18. Staal created traffic in front of Nedeljkovic and deflected Shayne Gostisbehere’s shot from the point.

Klingberg gave the Sharks the lead back at 7:54 of the second period. Celebrini found the San Jose Sharks defenseman driving the middle, and his one-timer beat Kochetkov.
Wennberg added to the Sharks’ lead, making it 3-1 at 15:14 while on the power play. Klingberg fed William Eklund in the bumper spot, and his one-timer rebounded to the left for Wennberg to fire back into the net.
Wennberg drew a penalty before sliding a pass to Celebrini to score an empty net goal and make it 4-1 at 18:40 of the third period.
