The Vancouver Canucks have announced a roster move on Sunday less than 24 hours after their win over Minnesota that involves 2022 first round pick Jonathan Lekkerimaki.
Among those that have been up and down between Vancouver & Abbotsford in recent weeks include defenseman Elias Pettersson and goaltender Nikita Tolopilo, the latter of whom had a solid performance on Saturday night for the Canucks, stopping 28 of 30 shots he faced to help his club pick up a 4-2 win against the Minnesota Wild.
Thankfully for the Vancouver Canucks, some of their injured players appear to be closing in on a return to game action, including forward Nils Hoglander, who could potentially make his season debut on Monday night against the Detroit Red Wings.
“Hoglander and Demko both skated again this morning. Foote suggested that Hoglander might play Monday vs Detroit, and if not, then Buffalo on Thursday.”
Vancouver Canucks announce roster move involving 2022 first round pick Jonathan Lekkerimaki
In a post on social media on Sunday morning, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they’ve sent Swedish forward Jonathan Lekkerimaki down to the American Hockey League’s Abbotsford Canucks.
“General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Jonathan Lekkerimäki has been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL).” the Canucks said.
The Tullinge, Sweden native has seen his ice time drop significantly in the last three games as he only skated in 6:35 on Saturday night and with the Abbotsford Canucks in action tonight the Coachella Valley Firebirds, it’ll give him an opportunity to get top line minutes and boost his confidence a bit.
“Abbotsford plays today at 4pm. If Lekkerimaki plays, he is eligible to be recalled tomorrow.
This happened this week with Elias Pettersson. He went down, played in Abbotsford, and then was right back up.” Canucks News Summaries said.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens prior to Monday’s game against Detroit, as fans are hoping that Nils Hoglander will be good to go, but if he’s not, look for Jonathan Lekkerimaki to be called back up.
In eight games with the Canucks this season, the 21-year-old winger has two points (one goal, one assist), zero penalty minutes and has an even-rating.
