Phillip Danault has been a very consistent player in the NHL, but with the Kings slow start, a top team insider believes he has officially requested a trade.

For the past five seasons, Phillip Danault has been a key piece of the Los Angeles Kings forward group, but in that time, the team have struggled to find any success in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

While the team have tried to shake things up, it simply hasn’t worked, and after a slow start, with the team going 12-8-7 through their first 27 games in 2025/26, General Manager Ken Holland has plenty of decisions to make on this team moving forward.

Phillip Danault reportedly requests a trade

Now, according to reports, the 32-year old veteran is drawing interest from several teams around the NHL, and now, we know exactly why, as he has seemingly requested a trade.

According to Russell Morgan of Hockey Royalty, the reason that he’s drawing interest is because he has potentially requested a trade from the team he’s been with over the past five seasons.

That’s not yet officially been confirmed by top insiders around the league, but given the team’s struggles and Danault’s potential desire to find a fresh start elsewhere, trading him could be a move that benefits both teams in a big way.

Ultimately, Danault’s numbers this season don’t look great, but given the two-way game he plays and point totals of 43, 47, 54 and 51 over the past four years with the Kings, he could provide immense value as a trade candidate, so expect chatter to pick up around the 32-year old veterans in the coming weeks.
