“A potential Hughes brothers reunion just got a little more real. The Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils have touched base on star defenceman Quinn Hughes, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on the Saturday Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada. However, no trade is close.” [Sportsnet]
Quinn talks:
Some assessment of a Quinn Hughes deal from a Vancouver perspective: “Overall, the Canucks will still hold significant leverage if Hughes expresses a desire to leave Vancouver at some point this season. It obviously wouldn’t be enough to ‘win’ a Hughes trade, but navigated correctly, it could land them the kind of haul that would brighten the future.” [The Athletic ($)]

Not surprisingly, it appears that Tom Fitzgerald has been active:
“The Devils have fallen into quite a slump lately without Jack Hughes, but I still love the ceiling on that team if they can somehow manage to be healthy at the right time. Jacob Markström and Jake Allen are a strong tandem, and it feels like some pucks are due to find the net for a New Jersey offense that is better than its current numbers show.” [The Athletic ($)]

“On this episode of Agent Provocateur, Allan Walsh and Adam Wylde are joined by Hockey Hall of Famer Lou Lamoriello to talk about his journey through pro sports. Lamoriello talks about his time as an executive in the NHL and NBA, being a dual sport athlete, what it takes to win, an almost guest appearance on The Sopranos and so much more.”
The Jets and Habs will play in the 2026 Heritage Classic:
“So, it would appear no expansion news is coming, though commissioner Gary Bettman has surprised us in the past, like when he announced the Vegas ticket drive at the BOG meeting in December 2014 despite it not being on the official agenda. Bettman will also sometimes update owners on markets’ expressions of interest. It wouldn’t surprise me if that happened. But officially, the word ‘expansion’ is nowhere to be found on the agenda.” [The Athletic ($)]
