Top Fantasy Hockey Schedules for Week 10
Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings not only play four games this week, but will be going head-to-head with some of the NHL’s weakest teams. Detroit will open the week against the Calgary Flames and the Vancouver Canucks, two of the worst teams in the Western Conference. The Edmonton Oilers will be their toughest opponent, but the team is currently tied for the second-worst goals against in the league. Finally, the Red Wings will visit Illinois to face the struggling Chicago Blackhawks.
It’s not recommended that fantasy owners pick up any Detroit goaltenders, who are failing to post a save percentage above .900, but their forward group definitely holds some value. Both Patrick Kane and Emmitt Finnie have been on hot streaks recently and are considered strong options for those looking for scoring depth.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Although the Pittsburgh Penguins will begin the week against a strong Anaheim Ducks team, they should capitalize on their next three matchups, all of which they play at home. On Thursday, the Montreal Canadiens team will come to town, a team Pittsburgh hasn’t lost to since 2023. Additionally, on the weekend, the Penguins will play the San Jose Sharks and the Utah Mammoth, both of whom have struggled as of late.
The Penguins are surprisingly in a playoff spot, but much of their success comes from their most trusted veterans, some of whom can be found on the waiver wire. Players like Bryan Rust and Kris Letang have found themselves on the scoresheet over the last week, while Tristan Jarry continues to impress in net.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes have been one of the stronger teams in the Eastern Conference despite their inconsistent goaltending this year, and this week they have the opportunity to improve their record against favorable opponents. The Hurricanes first play the middling Columbus Blue Jackets before entering battle with the Washington Capitals on Thursday, and closing the week with a back-to-back against the Philadelphia Flyers. Over the last two years, Carolina has dominated the Flyers, having a 9-1-0 record against them during that time. Although the Caps will undoubtedly challenge the Hurricanes, their date with Columbus, followed by the back-to-back against the Flyers, should intrigue managers.
For those looking to add forward depth this week, Nikolaj Ehlers has been heating up as of late, with defensemen like K’Andre Miller and Sean Walker providing peripheral value while picking up the occasional point.
Another team with four games and beneficial matchups this week is the Buffalo Sabres, but managers should be cautious when picking up some of their players, with the team still continuing to struggle in the East. Make sure to return next week for schedule advice coming into week 11.
