With the NHL season about one-third of the way done, the standings are starting to bunch up. NHL rumors may include teams looking to make improvements on their rosters to gain some momentum. Let’s dive in and explore the latest.

Vancouver Canucks – Quinn Hughes NHL Rumors: Is Quinn Hughes on the move out of Vancouver?

Per Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, the Vancouver Canucks and New Jersey Devils have held talks regarding the future of Quinn Hughes. Friedman said that he does“not believe there is anything imminent” regarding Hughes. Friedman did say, though, “a conversation was had between the two clubs “about where things stand and where they might be going.”

No doubt Quinn would love to be playing with his two brothers, Jack and Luke, in New Jersey.

Quinn is a proven top defenseman in the NHL. Over his last four seasons in Vancouver, he has scored 48 goals and 264 assists in 304 games. He’s a unique talent on the power play, averaging about 30 assists per season over that same time period. His salary sits at $7.85 million through next season.

Almost any NHL team would love to add him to its roster. The problem is that it may take a huge return to make any deal work. The Devils are a legitimate contender, and adding Captain Quinn Hughes would certainly enhance their chances of hoisting the coveted Cup.

While it may be a bit too early for the Canucks to consider moving Quinn Hughes, it doesn’t hurt to see what teams may be interested in his services.

Is a brother reunion in order? We will need to wait to see.

Edmonton Oilers – Tristan Jarry NHL Rumors: The Oilers are in desperate need of upgrading their goaltending due to Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard’s level of play thus far.

Per Elliotte Friedman,

Jarry is currently signed to a five-year contract worth $28.675 million, good through the 2027-28 season. He has collected some impressive statistics this season, going 9-2, with a 2.61 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage. No doubt, the Edmonton Oilers’ management would love to see him protecting their net if possible.

The possibility remains remote since the Oilers have limited cap space to consummate a deal. They need to do something soon, as the Edmonton club sits in the first wildcard slot and has not shown signs of dominating as expected. When you have Connor McDavid ($12.5M) and Leon Draisaitl ($14M) currently taking up 45.8 percent of your forwards’ cap space, it becomes difficult, if not impossible, to find cap space when needed.

What complicates the possibility further is that Pittsburgh’s general manager, Kyle Dubas, has stated he has no interest in retaining any of Jarry’s salary.

Last season, through 29 games, the Oilers had 36 points with a 17-10-2 record. They trail that start this campaign by five points with a 13-11-5 record.

While panic hasn’t set in quite yet, it is apparent that Edmonton must address their goalie situation sooner rather than later.

Los Angeles Kings – Phillip Danault NHL Rumors: Danault has shown that he is one of the league’s top defensive centers. According to insider Frank Seravalli, “multiple teams have inquired with L.A. on his availability.” Danault could be one of the top centers available on the trade market, assuming the Los Angeles Kings have a desire to deal him.

While Danault is not an offensive threat, he is considered to be an excellent defensive player. In 739 games, he has added 125 goals and 274 assists. He is a faceoff specialist with an impressive 53.1 percent success rate in the circle. Over his 12-year NHL career, he has a +86 plus/minus reading. This means he is on the ice when his team is scoring more than when his team is allowing goals to be scored.

For whatever reason, Danault has been unable to find the net this season and has just five assists through 28 games. He holds a $5.5 million contract through next season. With the Kings struggling to score this season with just 2.71 goals per game, they may be looking for some additional firepower.

The main reason Danault may be in demand by other teams is his stellar defensive contributions. We all know that defense wins championships, and Danault can provide that. Stay tuned here to see what happens with the future of this player.

End Of NHL Rumors Rant

The Quinn Hughes potential trade may not happen. It remains a pipedream for him to join his two brothers in New Jersey. Stranger things have happened.

The Oilers are a mess in net. They need to address the situation. It doesn’t help if you can score goals at ease if you can’t keep the puck out of your own net.

Danault may soon find a new home. He could be going back to the Montreal Canadiens, who can use him.
