Detroit Red Wings News and Notes:
After a rough month of November, falling out of a playoff spot and going a mediocre 5-6-2, the Detroit Red Wings have momentum back on their side, grabbing a point in their last four games. In such a great-performing Eastern Conference, the Red Wings were a sneaky team in the winning column, now just one point back from the wild card. Their most recent success comes in the form of a hard-fought 4-3 victory against the Seattle Kraken that included a game-winner off the stick of Alex DeBrincat in the last three minutes of regulation. Tonight’s game also takes place smack-dab in the middle of a six game road trip for the Detroit Red Wings, as they make their way into Rogers Arena for the first time this season.
Vancouver Canucks News and Notes:
The Vancouver Canucks are riding their first bit of momentum in a while after taking down the Minnesota Wild on Saturday in a 4-2 victory. Aatu Raty was the shining star in that win, continuing his now three game point streak, as well as going nuclear with two goals and an assist, propelling the Canucks to victory. Not to mention instead of rookie Nikita Tolopilo in the crease the Canucks get their guy, Kevin Lankinen back to take on the Red Wings tonight. Although Vancouver is in second to last in the West, just above the Nashville Predators, with Saturday’s win, they now just sit six points back from a wild card spot in an incredibly tight-knit Western Conference

Players to Watch:
Detroit Red Wings:
Detroit’s all-star defenseman Moritz Seider has been performing at the peak of his powers lately, with six points in his last three games. One of the most dynamic defensemen in the entire NHL continues to contribute at a high rate on what is an underwhelming, yet very deep Red Wings squad. Lucas Raymond has also been coming into his own this season with 31 points through 27 games. Besides being unable to produce on the scoreboard against the Kraken on Saturday, that game stopped a fantastic seven-game point streak. Detroit’s top line Swede has been such a steady hand for the Red Wings this season, and when they need production on the offensive side, they go to Lucas Raymond.
Vancouver Canucks:
The Vancouver Canucks were full of “first-ever’s” on Saturday, with both of their rookie defensemen, Tom Willander and Elias Nils Pettersson, grabbing their first career NHL goals. Both Pettersson and Willander are starting to come into their own this season, becoming full-time NHL roster members instead of previously going up and down from the Abbotsford Canucks. On the older side of the lineup, Vancouver Canucks newcomer Evander Kane has been solidifying his spot in the lineup and producing at a high level in his first season with his hometown team. Barring Friday’s game against the Utah Mammoth, which he missed with an injury, Kane has four points in his last five games, providing a steady hand in what has been a streaky stint of offensive production for the Vancouver Canucks as of late.
