The NHL has fined Jamie Benn following his actions against Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele in Thursday night’s loss.

The Dallas Stars captain was fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for the roughing penalty he picked up after punching Scheifele late in Game 5.

The skirmish between the teams resulted in 24 total minutes of penalties as Benn was given a 10-minute game misconduct and a two-minute minor for roughing, Scheifele was given a two-minute minor for roughing and Jets wing Brandon Tanev was given a 10-minute game misconduct.

After the game, Stars coach Pete DeBoer commented on the fight.

“I think it’s an emotional series,” he said. “You play this time of year against one team, there gets to be a little bit of hate out there. That’s okay.”

Game 6 between the Stars and Jets is set for 7:00 p.m. on Saturday night and will be televised on ABC.
