The Vegas Golden Knights continue to roll this season. They’ve climbed to second place in the Pacific Division and are riding a four-game winning streak, improving their record to 14-6-8.
Their latest victory, a 3-2 overtime win against the New York Rangers on Sunday, nearly included another historic moment from Jack Eichel.
Jack Eichel Nearly Breaks His Own Golden Knights OT Record
Eichel buried the winner at 4:52 of overtime, falling just one second short of breaking the Golden Knights’ franchise record for the latest-OT-goal, a mark he actually set himself on October 30, 2022, at 4:53 against the Jets.

He also did so during his Buffalo Sabres days in 2016, burying an even later winner at 4:59 against the Hurricanes, a reminder of his clutch moments.
The game itself had plenty of twists. Vegas opened the scoring less than a minute in when Brett Howden slipped a feed from Mitch Marner. The Rangers answered in the second period, first with Mika Zibanejad lifting a backhander over Carter Hart. Then, Alexis Lafrenière scored off the crossbar to take a 2-1 lead.
With under a minute left in regulation and after coincidental minors created a 4-on-4, the Golden Knights pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. Tomas Hertl jammed in a rebound to tie the game 2-2 to go to overtime.

Overtime brought its own drama. As Mitch Marner reached for the puck, he took out Rangers defenseman Matthew Robertson’s legs, but no penalty was called. The missed trip left New York frustrated, with head coach Mike Sullivan to several players openly questioning the no-call.
Jack Eichel ultimately ended it with another clutch OT winner, coming just one second shy of breaking his own franchise record.
After the game, Eichel said overtime hasn’t exactly been kind to Vegas this season. He noted that the team finally grabbed a shootout win against Chicago on Tuesday, and maybe things are starting to turn around.
“So, we find a way to get one tonight, and yeah, listen, you take wins however you can get them in this league, it’s hard to win. They’re a good hockey team, you know, so really it was a full team effort tonight, a great win,” Eichel said.
Next, the Knights will face the New York Islanders on Monday.
