The latest sign that Detroit Red Wings prospect Carter Bear has come all the way back from his Achilles injury arrived on Monday. He got his country’s call.

Bear was among the 27 names announced by Hockey Canada to the country’s roster for the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship.

Of late, the left-winger for the WHL Everett Silvertips has been hotter than asphalt in July. Bear has accounted for 15 points over Everett’s past eight games, with nine goals and six assists in that span. For the season, he’s showing 13-14-27 totals from 23 games.

Bear has delivered eight multi-point games during the 2025-26 WHL campaign. The Silvertips are currently sitting at No. 2 in the Canadian Hockey League rankings.

Detroit chose the 6-foot, 177-pounder with the 13th overall selection of the 2025 NHL entry draft.

Red Wings coach Todd McLellan liked what he saw from Bear last fall during his first NHL training camp. And he projected just what kind of force the 19-year-old winger can become as he matures and grows into his body.

“He’s involved in the game consistently night after night,” McLellan said. “As he grows and matures, he’s going to get stronger and stronger, and those battles for him are going to be … they’ll be even more winnable because he’s going to be stronger.

“He’s a very smart player. Mother Nature is going to help him, and he’s going to work hard, and he’s going to be a heck of a player.”

Three Red Wings Picks To World Juniors

Bear will be among three Red Wings draftees who will be suiting up for their homeland at the World Junior. Forward Max Plante (47th, 2024) will be playing for the USA for the second straight tournament. Plante helped the Americans win the gold medal last year.
