The Vancouver Canucks have placed one of their defensive prospects on the waiver wire on Monday after he began the 2025-26 season on injured reserve (IR).
Those injuries haven’t just caused a problem at the NHL level either as the American Hockey League’s Abbotsford Canucks and ECHL’s Kalamazoo Wing have had their own issues they’ve been dealing with since the puck dropped on their respective seasons in October.
Thankfully for the organization, some of their injured players are getting close to return, including one of Vancouver’s defensive prospects, who has been recovering from offseason surgery.
Vancouver Canucks place defensive prospect Jett Woo on waivers
In a social media post this morning, Rick Dhaliwal of Donnie & Dhali announced that Vancouver Canucks defensive prospect Jett Woo has been placed on waivers and is nearing a return from injury.
“Jett Woo on waivers, he has to clear to be sent down.
He is closer to returning from his hand injury.” Dhaliwal said.
Woo, 25, suffered an injury to his hand/wrist during the Abbotsford Canucks’ run to the Calder Cup in the spring, which resulted in him having surgery in August and being deemed out month-to-month by the club.
“Patrik Allvin says Jett Woo had surgery in early August and is probably month to month. Likely returning in November.” Brendan Batchelor said back in September.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native was selected in the second round by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, but has yet to make his debut in the league, spending the last five seasons in the American Hockey League where he’s amassed 83 points (21 goals, 62 assists), 332 penalty minutes and is a plus-32 in 267 games.
It’s likely going to take Woo a little bit to get back up to game speed, but it’s possible we could see him return to game action as early as this weekend, as Abbotsford heads out on the road to take on the Calgary Wranglers.
