Calgary, Alberta (WGR Sports Radio 550) – Having already suffered two losses to start a six-game stretch away from home, the Buffalo Sabres are hoping to right the ship in Calgary against the Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome.
Halfway through the first period, the Flames opened the scoring. Defenseman Mackenzie Weegar’s point shot was deflected by a body in front. That body happened to be teammate Yegor Sharangovich, who received credit for the Calgary goal.
The Flames doubled their lead minutes later, while boasting a 5-on-3 powerplay advantage. Defenseman Rasmus Andersson took a one-timer in which his stick exploded during the attempt. Due to the malfunction, Andersson’s shot came off his stick much weaker than intended, and the reduced speed of the fluttering rubber fooled Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen enough to make it a 2-0 contest.
