The NHL has completed nine weeks of the 2025-2026 season. The Colorado Avalanche and Dallas Stars are the two best teams in the league and are playing better than their competitors. Nashville, Vancouver, Calgary, Buffalo, and St. Louis continue to be bottom feeders, with no signs of increasing their production. Here are the NHL team power rankings heading into Week 10.
32. Nashville Predators
It continues to be a long season for Nashville. They have the fewest points in the National Hockey League and own one of the league’s worst goal differentials. The team’s slow start is due to the inability to score goals while preventing opponents from lighting the lamp.
31. Vancouver Canucks
Vancouver’s issues stem from poor goaltending and an inability to win on home ice. The Canucks rank 32nd in goals allowed per game. The team has shown the ability to score goals, but goaltending and defense continue to be an issue.
30. Calgary Flames

Calgary’s season has come down to goaltending playing well, but an inability to find the back of the net. On the season, Calgary ranks 32nd in goals scored per game compared to 13th in goals allowed per game. The Flames must find a way to score goals.
29. Buffalo Sabres
Buffalo has increased production over its last 10 games, but winning away games continues to be an issue. The Sabres rank 26th in goals allowed per game and 21st in goals scored per game. The team needs to find a way to gain points while playing on the road.
28. St. Louis Blues
Through nine weeks, St. Louis has the worst goal differential in the NHL. The Blues’ goaltenders rank 25th in goals allowed per game and 31st in goals scored per game. The team is nearly .500 at home and on the road, but an inability to score goals has been their biggest flaw.
27. Seattle Kraken
Seattle’s struggles are directly related to defense. Specifically, the Kraken have been terrible on the penalty kill, ranking 32nd. A second issue is scoring goals, as the team ranks 30th in goals scored per game.
26. Florida Panthers

Florida has been on the wrong side of one and two-goal games. In seasons past, the Panthers won these games, but have yet to get over the hump. As the season progresses and Matthew Tkachuk returns, the team should see luck swing their way.
25. San Jose Sharks
San Jose is slowly heating up. Macklin Celebrini, ranked 3rd among league points leaders, has been the team’s best producer. However, the team is searching for steady production outside of Celebrini.
24. Winnipeg Jets
Winnipeg is trying to survive while goaltender Connor Hellebuyck nears a return from November 22nd knee surgery. Since November 22nd, the Jets are 2-6. The team needs to improve their goal-scoring ability as they rank 19th in goals scored per game.
23. Ottawa Senators
Ottawa has increased production over the past few weeks, but penalty kill issues have persisted throughout the season. The Senators rank 31st in penalty kill percentage. Improving in penalty kill will produce better results as the season progresses.
22. Chicago Blackhawks
Chicago’s strong start is attributed to the 5th–best penalty kill percentage, strong goaltending, and rostering the league’s 4th–ranked points leader in Connor Bedard. The Blackhawks can improve in regulation as they have the 4th–most overtime losses. Compared to previous years, Chicago is headed in the right direction.

Toronto has heated up over its last 10 games and has seen improved production from its goaltenders. The Maple Leafs rank 6th in goals scored per game and 21st in goals allowed per game. Improvements to the power play are needed.
20. Edmonton Oilers
Offensively, Edmonton ranks among the best teams in the league. The team’s main downfall is ranking 29th in goals allowed per game. It’s easier said than done, but the team must find a way to acquire a dependable goaltender.
19. Utah Mammoth
Utah has been in the middle of the pack in goals scored and goals allowed per game, but its main issue is power play. The team ranks 27th in power play percentage. Improvements to the power play can turn losses into wins.
18. Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus has fared well, but the Metropolitan Division has been one of the league’s closest in terms of standings. A main issue has been goaltending. The Blue Jackets rank 26th in goals allowed per game.
17. Detroit Red Wings
As with many teams, the Red Wings’ issues start between the pipes. The team ranks 29th in goals allowed per game. Detroit is hunting for the playoffs, but its goaltenders are improving.
16. Montreal Canadiens

15. New Jersey Devils
New Jersey has struggled over its last ten games, and scoring goals has been an issue. The team ranks 24th in goals scored per game. However, New Jersey’s goaltenders have kept games close.
14. Los Angeles Kings
Goaltending has been strong for Los Angeles. The team ranks 3rd in goals allowed per game. The Kings’ glaring issue is scoring goals. On the season, Los Angeles ranks 27th in goals scored per game.
13. New York Rangers
The Rangers play much better on the road than at home. Improved production on home ice will help in the standings. This season, New York ranks 5th in goals allowed per game and 28th in goals scored per game.
12. Philadelphia Flyers
Philadelphia has been one of the league’s best over its last 10 games. They continue to win at home and on the road. The Flyers’ goaltenders rank top ten in goals allowed per game, but 23rd in goals scored per game.
11. Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh has been one of the league’s most consistent teams through nine weeks. They rank 9th in goals scored and goals allowed per game. The Penguins’ hot start can be attributed to ranking 1st in power play percentage.
10. Boston Bruins
Boston has been nearly unbeatable on home ice. However, the team is below .500 on the road. The Bruins rank 6th in power play percentage, 8th in penalty kill percentage, and 11th in goals scored per game. They’ve played consistent hockey through the first months of the season.
9. Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas continues to add points to the standings and ranks 15th in goals scored per game and 11th in goals allowed per game. Center Jack Eichel continues to lead Vegas and ranks 12th among league points leaders. The Golden Knights are firing on all cylinders.
8. Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa Bay leads the Atlantic Division and has fared well over its last ten games. The Lightning continue to receive production from its offensive and defensive players. The team ranks 10th in goals scored per game and 6th in goals allowed per game.
7. Minnesota Wild
Minnesota’s ability to win at home and on the road has been the key to its hot start. The team’s goaltenders have played well, but there is a need for increased goalscoring. The Wild rank 26th in goals scored per game.
6. New York Islanders
The Islanders continue to play well, but have won more on the road than on home ice. New York ranks 7th in goals allowed per game and 20th in goals scored per game. Increased production in goalscoring will keep them adding points to the standings.
5. Anaheim Ducks

Anaheim continues to produce with the top teams in the league. The team ranks 3rd in goals scored per game but 24th in goals allowed per game. Goaltending performance must increase if Anaheim doesn’t want to slow down.
4. Carolina Hurricanes
Carolina is a difficult opponent for any team. The Hurricanes rank 5th in goals scored per game and 11th in goals allowed per game. Improvements need to be made to power plays and penalty kills. Carolina ranks 27th in power play percentage and 23rd in penalty kill percentage.
3. Washington Capitals
Washington has been nearly unbeatable in its last ten games. The Capitals’ offense has played well and ranks 2nd in goals scored per game. The team has received outstanding goaltending play, ranking 2nd in goals allowed per game.
2. Dallas Stars
Dallas is the 2nd best team in the NHL, and they would lead the Central Division if it weren’t for the Avalanche. The Stars rank 4th in goals scored per game and 4th in goals allowed per game. Dallas has few flaws through nine weeks.
1. Colorado Avalanche
Colorado continues to be the NHL’s top-ranked team. No matter where they play, the Avalanche are winning and have yet to suffer a regulation defeat on home ice. The team ranks 1st in goals scored and goals allowed per game.
