Calle Jarnkrok was once a massive pickup for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but with the emergence of young players, his future with the team is up in the air.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been off to a rocky start in 2025/26, with the team going 13-11-4 in their first 28 games played, as they simply don’t look like the regular season team we’ve seen in recent years.
There’s been many reasons for Toronto taking a step back this season, with the biggest two being the health of their team as well as the departure of Mitch Marner, with the team still struggling to replicate his consistency on their top line.
Calle Jarnkrok falling out of favour in Toronto
Coming into the season, there was hope that Marner could be replaced by some young names coming through, or even a veteran being pushed up the lineup, and right now, the team is favouring the young players such as Easton Cowan and Nick Robertson.
That spells bad news for veterans like Calle Jarnkrok, who has just 4 goals in 18 games played this season, and for Editor in Leaf, that has brought up major question marks over his future with the organization.
Four years ago, Jarnkrok was a huge pickup for the Maple Leafs, and while he was productive in a bottom-six role, as of right now, the team are looking towards the future, and that seemingly doesn’t include the 34-year old veteran.
Over the past two years, Jarnkrok has appeared in just 37 games with the Maple Leafs, and it’s clear that fans are starting to see this as well, meaning that before long, it’s very likely that he is moved on, whether the be trading him or waiving him.
